Frass4Gas: Thailand

Basic research
Thai insect farming residues for biogas production
  • Funding: Agency for Education and Internationalisation (OeAD) and ASEA-UNINET
  • Period: October 2022 – October 2023
  • Budget: €10,400
  • Role: Principal investigator
  • Collaborator: Siripuk Suraporn (Mahasarakham University, Thailand)

Description

This project examines whether frass from four farmed insects (silkworm, cricket, black soldier fly and mealworm) can serve as a co-substrate for anaerobic digestion. Earlier lab pre-trials indicated that black soldier fly frass can increase biogas yields from cattle manure.
